The HSE is organising into six new health regions in 2024. The new health regions are being established in order to provide integrated health and social care services for the people in that area.
The six health regions will replace hospital groups (HGs) and community healthcare organisations (CHOs). The Ireland East Hospital Group (IEHG) will become part of the health region HSE Dublin and South East which covers Tipperary South, Waterford, Kilkenny, Carlow, Wexford, Wicklow, and part of South Dublin.
Work is progressing to establish the six health regions from 1 March 2024.
As of 2 January 2024, the first element of the geographical realignment came into effect when the delegated authority for the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (MMUH), Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan (OLHN) and National Orthopaedic Hospital Cappagh (NOHC) transferred from IEHG to the RCSI Hospital Group, which will now encompass all hospitals included in the future boundary of the health region HSE Dublin and North East.
On 22 January 2024, delegated authority for Regional Hospital Mullingar transferred to the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group (DMHG) which will become the health region HSE Dublin and Midlands.
From 12 February 2024, University Hospital Waterford, Tipperary University Hospital and Kilcreene Regional Orthopaedic Hospital will pass to IEHG from the South South West Hospital Group (SSWHG).
IEHG would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the incredible staff in the Mater, Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan, National Orthopaedic Hospital Cappagh and Regional Hospital Mullingar for the strong partnerships we have formed since the establishment of our hospital group in 2015, for the outstanding work we have achieved together and for their tireless pursuit of excellence in patient care. We know they will carry the same leadership and dedication forward in their new health regions and we wish them all the very best for the future.
Equally we look forward to welcoming University Hospital Waterford, Tipperary University Hospital and Kilcreene Regional Orthopaedic Hospital to our Group and to working with all three hospitals on building integrated and innovative partnerships into the future.
